About
Philbrook Campground provides a serene mountain camping experience on Philbrook Reservoir in the Lassen National Forest. Located near Magalia in Butte County at 5,565 feet elevation, this PG&E-operated campground features 20 developed sites nestled under tall cedar trees with views of the reservoir. Each site includes a bear box for secure food storage, and the campground offers vault toilet facilities with handicap accessibility. The primary draw is Philbrook Reservoir itself, which provides excellent trout fishing and non-motorized boating opportunities. A car-top boat launch is available nearby for kayaks, canoes, and small boats. The surrounding area offers hiking and wildlife viewing in the Lassen National Forest. The campground operates seasonally, typically opening in late May after snowmelt and closing in September. Reservations can be made through PG&E's recreation website with a 2-night minimum requirement, while some sites remain available on a first-come, first-served basis. The maximum RV length is 34 feet, making this best suited for smaller rigs and tent camping.
