and Patrick.
* WHEN...From 11 AM EDT this morning through Sunday evening.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings
may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with
debris. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers
are possible.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Upslope rainfall from a rather strong southeasterly Low level jet
from the remnants of Isaias will bring increased precipitation
along the crest of the southern Blue Ridge from Floyd county
extending southwestward to Watauga county. Widespread rainfall
totals of 2-4 inches with locally higher totals in the 5-6 range
will be possible, especially for areas like Meadows of Dan,
Boone, and Blowing Rock. These higher totals may lead to isolated
instances of landslides along slopes that have been modified by
humans like embankments or cut slopes. These areas may also see
increased rises on local streamflows that may lead to flooding
across low-water crossings.

A period of strong wind gusts is expected today as the remnants
of Hurricane Isaias move into eastern Kentucky. Southeasterly
winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph are expected. The
strongest winds are expected during the afternoon and should
coincide with the arrival of the leading bands of rain. Once
rainfall becomes steady, many areas will see the winds lighten,
except at elevations above 1,500 feet, where the gusty winds are
expected to continue into the night. Isolated gusts over 40 mph
are possible over the highest ridge tops. The gusty winds could
blow around unsecured outdoor objects and decor.

Locations further removed from these taller prominent mountains
should expect southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph with occasional gusts

Beartree
Beartree Campground will open Chipmunk Loop starting on May 14th and stay open until further notice. All sites in Chipmunk will be first-come, first-served. There will be no water available in Chipmunk Loop until we can get some maintenance done on the well. Bathrooms will be closed. There will be a portable toilet available near site 11 and a host in site 11. Customers will need to bring all water that they will need. The picnic area will be Closed while we do maintenance on the area and may remain closed for the remainder of 2026.
