About

Caldwell Fields Group Campground consists of two large, open grassy fields, George and Milton, located in a narrow valley flanked by Jefferson National Forest lands. Each field can be reserved separately or together, accommodating groups of up to 50 people and 20 vehicles. The campground is bordered by large shade trees and sits adjacent to Craig Creek, which meanders along the edge of the fields. Craig Creek is stocked with trout and provides excellent fishing opportunities, as well as a place to splash and relax in cool mountain waters. The campground is ideal for groups seeking old-fashioned, rustic camping experiences who require few modern amenities. A third field is available at the site for day-use only and is currently designated as a First Amendment Gathering Site. Located just 20 minutes from Blacksburg, home of Virginia Tech, the campground offers convenient access while maintaining a secluded feel. The last 4.8 miles of Craig Creek Road is gravel. Visitors must pack out all trash, and no drinking water is available on-site. The campground operates seasonally from April through October.

Directions

From Blacksburg, follow US 460 west for 2.8 miles. Turn right on Craig Creek Road (SR 621) and go 8.8 miles. The fields are on the right. Road turns to gravel after 4 miles.
