About
Hussy Mountain Horse Camp is a primitive equestrian campground located in the east fork of the Dry Run Valley within Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. The campground offers three group camping loops, though currently only the front loop is available due to a bridge closure connecting the back loops. Each loop includes parking for 4-5 vehicles with trailers, wooden picnic tables, fire rings, hitching rails, and garbage containers. The campground sits at approximately 3,000 feet elevation and is well-shaded with hardwoods, hemlocks, and pines. East Fork Dry Run Creek flows adjacent to the campground, providing a water source for horses as well as opportunities for fishing and wading. The campground provides direct access to several trails including East Fork Divide Trail (4617), Dry Run Gap Trail (4613), and Highlands Horse Trail (337). Horse owners are required to have a current negative Coggins test certificate for any horse brought to public recreation areas in Virginia. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with potable water and vault toilets available in each loop. Summer temperatures typically range from upper 70s to low 90s during the day, cooling to the 60s in the evening.
