About

Collins Cove Horse Campground is a primitive equestrian campground located approximately 18 miles south of Wytheville in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. The campground provides direct access to the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail and several other trails including Ewing Mountain, Mike's Gap, Moore, and Raven Cliff trails. The area sits at approximately 2,000 feet elevation, shaded by hardwoods, hemlocks, and pines. The campground consists of two large grassy fields with 10 camping units, each equipped with a wooden picnic table, fire ring, and hitching rails. Centrally located vault toilets and garbage bins serve the campground. A creek runs adjacent to the campground, providing water for horses, but campers must bring their own drinking water as no potable water is available. Horse owners must have a current negative Coggins test certificate for any horse brought to the campground for recreational use in Virginia. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Bear-proof food storage practices are required.
