About
Flatwoods Group Picnic Area is a secluded day-use facility nestled in the forests of the Clinch Ranger District in Jefferson National Forest. Designed for family reunions, organizational gatherings, and other group events, the site features a covered picnic shelter equipped with sinks, running water, a large built-in charcoal grill, and electrical outlets for small appliances. Flush restrooms are available on site. Open lawn areas adjacent to the shelter provide space for horseshoes, sports, and games. The facility is located behind a locked gate, ensuring privacy for reserved groups. Visitors must obtain a gate combination from the Ranger Station prior to arrival. Nearby recreational opportunities include the Guest River Gorge Trail, a 5.8-mile rail-trail following the Guest River through scenic cliff lines and 300-million-year-old sandstone outcrops. Little Stony Falls, a 24-foot waterfall accessible via the Little Stony National Recreation Trail, is also within easy driving distance. This is a day-use facility only; overnight camping is not permitted at Flatwoods Group Picnic Area.
