About

Cave Mountain Lake Group Camp sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia within Jefferson National Forest, offering a rustic retreat for groups. The 7-acre lake was constructed in the late 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps using natural rock buttresses to form a 35-foot dam. A sandy beach provides designated swimming areas, while fishing is restricted to youth ages 15 and under from April 1st through June 15th, then opens to all anglers with valid Virginia licenses for the remainder of the season. The campground provides group sites that accommodate 1 to 30 people with pricing tiered by group size. Each campsite includes a picnic table, lantern post, and campfire ring with grill. Flush toilets and water spigots are located throughout the facility. The main entrance gate is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the day use area accessible from 6 a.m. to sunset. Hiking opportunities abound, from the Panther Knob Trail that skirts the lake's edge to longer excursions on the Appalachian Trail, James River Face Wilderness, and Thunder Ridge Wilderness. The location offers easy interstate access and sits just 20 minutes from historic Lexington and 8 miles from Natural Bridge State Park.
