About

Pound River Campground sits within the John W. Flannagan Dam & Reservoir Recreation Area in the rolling green Cumberland Mountains of southwest Virginia. The campground offers 29 campsites, including both RV sites with electric hookups and tent-only sites, with some located directly on the shoreline. Facilities include bathhouses with flush toilets and showers, a playground, horseshoe pits, and trash collection. The John W. Flannagan Dam, completed in 1964, creates a breathtaking 1,145-acre lake maintained at nearly 1,400 feet above sea level with nearly 40 miles of beautiful shoreline. The reservoir has earned a reputation as a fisherman's paradise, with secluded coves of deep, clean water well-stocked with bass, walleye, and trout. Boating, canoeing, and biking are popular activities in the area. Breaks Interstate Park is nearby, offering additional outdoor recreation opportunities including rafting, rock climbing, and hiking.
