About

Laurel Fork Primitive Camp is located in the Jefferson National Forest in Wise County in southwestern Virginia. As a primitive camping area, this site offers a true backcountry experience with no developed amenities. There are no fees required to camp here, but visitors will find no drinking water, restrooms, picnic tables, fire rings, or other facilities. This area is best suited for experienced campers who are comfortable in remote settings and can be entirely self-sufficient. The Jefferson National Forest in this region features the rugged terrain of the Cumberland Mountains section of the Appalachian Plateau, characterized by steep mountains, deep valleys, and forested ridges. Campers should come prepared with all necessary supplies including water, as none is available on-site. All trash must be packed out, and visitors should follow Leave No Trace principles to preserve the natural character of the area. The primitive nature of this camp makes it ideal for those seeking solitude and a genuine wilderness experience away from developed campgrounds. Weather conditions can vary significantly by season, with snow possible in winter months at this elevation in the mountains of southwestern Virginia.
