About

Beartree Campground is situated in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area in southwestern Virginia, offering a sprawling layout with individual and group campsites in diverse vegetation. The campground accommodates recreation vehicles up to 40 feet at some sites and provides a peaceful setting near a small creek that flows through the grounds. The 14-acre Beartree Lake is a centerpiece of the recreation area, featuring two fishing piers where anglers can catch smallmouth bass, sunfish, rainbow and brown trout. Only self-propelled or electric trolling-motor boats are permitted on the lake. The Beartree Lake Trail circles the lake with half of the trail paved for easier access, making it suitable for hikers of various abilities. The campground is located along the Mount Rogers Scenic Byway and serves as a convenient base for exploring the region's trails, including easy access to the popular Virginia Creeper Trail. The Appalachian Trail is also nearby. The recreation area is surrounded by dense forests and sits in Virginia's highest terrain, with Mount Rogers at 5,729 feet being the state's highest point.
