About

New River Campground was once an established campground within the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, part of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in Carroll County, Virginia. The campground was temporarily closed approximately 20 years ago and has never been restored to operational status. The site currently has no maintained facilities. There is no potable water, no restrooms, and no active camping infrastructure. The Forest Service does not list New River Campground among its active recreation sites in the Mount Rogers area. The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has also withdrawn the site from the Virginia Bird & Wildlife Trail program. Campers seeking overnight options in the Mount Rogers area should consider nearby active campgrounds such as Grindstone Recreation Area, Hurricane Campground, Beartree Recreation Area, or Comers Rock Recreation Area.
