About

Walnut Flats Campground sits in a peaceful mountain setting within the Jefferson National Forest in Giles County, Virginia. The small campground features shaded sites arranged around a central grassy opening, surrounded by dense forest at roughly 2,500 feet elevation. This primitive facility caters primarily to tent campers, though small recreation vehicles can be accommodated. The location provides excellent access to outdoor recreation. The Appalachian Trail and Flat Top Mountain Trail System offer day hiking opportunities, while Dismal Creek—a stocked trout stream—provides fishing. The scenic Falls of Dismal waterfall is a short distance away. A wildlife pond is within walking distance of the campground. This is a no-fee, first-come-first-served campground with vault toilets. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own drinking water. The campground operates under standard National Forest rules including a 14-day stay limit within any 30-day period, quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and leashed pets.
