About
White Cedar Horse Camp sits atop Flat Top Mountain in Jefferson National Forest's Eastern Divide Ranger District, providing shaded camping designed for equestrians. Built in 2006, the facility offers 16 camping units: 13 single sites with 18' x 20' corrals and 3 double sites with 20' x 28' corrals. All sites include a lantern post, fire pit, tent pad, and picnic table, and are suitable for horse trailers. The campground's primary draw is its proximity to over 20 miles of intersecting trails of varied lengths and difficulty levels. Riders can access the Flat Top Trailhead directly from their campsite, making it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding mountain terrain. The area provides ample shade and a peaceful mountain setting for overnight camping with horses. Note that Virginia requires a current negative Coggins test certificate for any horse brought to public recreation areas. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and does not accept reservations through Recreation.gov.
