Overview

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest encompasses 2.2 million acres across northern Utah and southwestern Wyoming, receiving approximately 9 million visitors annually, making it one of the most heavily visited national forests in the country. The forest is currently open for recreation with several active closures you should be aware of: The Beulah Fire area has road, trail, and trailhead closures for public safety through late September 2025. The Blackhawk area on the Spanish Fork Ranger District (campground, roads, trails, and trailheads) remains closed to all use as of May 2025. Mill Creek Canyon upper area has road, picnic site, and trailhead closures for construction through December 2025-March 2026. Mineral Basin Road #085 is closed through October 2025 for repairs. The Neffs Canyon area has closures through late September for helipad construction. Year-round fire restrictions and camping stay limits are in effect forest-wide. The forest offers world-class winter recreation with access to "The Greatest Snow on Earth" and over 1,700 miles of hiking trails, making it ideal for backcountry and frontcountry experiences alike. Always check current conditions before your visit as closures and restrictions can change based on fire danger, weather, and ongoing management activities.
