About

Deadhorse Trailhead Campground is a small, primitive campground located on the northern slope of the Uinta Mountains within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. At an elevation of 8,490 feet, the campground sits in a mixed forest of lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine, and aspen, offering minimal shade. The four standard nonelectric campsites can each accommodate up to 8 people. The campground serves as a staging area for the Deadhorse OHV trail system, making it popular with off-highway vehicle enthusiasts. However, horses and ORVs are prohibited within the campground itself. Bears are present in the area, and all food and trash must be properly secured to avoid a $5,000 fine. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility with no potable water, so campers must bring all water they will need. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are available during the open season. Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov with a 2-night minimum on weekends and 3-night minimum on holiday weekends. First-come, first-served camping is also available.
