On July 21, 2025 at 10:00 am ET Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Backcountry Camping Permits will begin releasing on a 6 month rolling window. On July 21, 2025 reservations for January 21, 2026 availability and any earlier January dates will become available. Beginning on July 22, 2025 permit reservations with a check-in date of January 22, 2026 will be available for booking.
Gale Warning issued February 10 at 3:22PM EST until February 11 at 4:00AM EST by NWS Marquette MI
* WHAT...Northwest winds 20 to 30 kt with gusts up to 35 kt and waves 7 to 10 ft occurring. * WHERE...Portions of Central and Eastern Lake Superior. * WHEN...Until 4 AM EST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.
Small Craft Advisory issued February 10 at 10:56AM EST until February 10 at 1:00PM EST by NWS Marquette MI
* WHAT...For the Small Craft Advisory, northwest winds 15 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt and waves around 3 to 5 feet in ice free areas occurring. For the Gale Warning, northwest winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 35 kt and waves around 5 to 8 feet in ice free areas expected. * WHERE...Marquette to Munising MI and Munising to Grand Marais MI. * WHEN...For the Small Craft Advisory, until 1 PM EST this afternoon. For the Gale Warning, until 4 AM EST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.
Munising Falls Trail Closed Until Further Notice
The Munising Falls Trail within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is closed until further notice. Approximately 75-feet of the paved trail was washed out April 28th from recent heavy rainfall and seasonal snow melt.
