About

Beaver Creek Individual Backpacking Sites is a remote backcountry campground in the Beaver Basin Wilderness section of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The six dispersed campsites sit on a sandy, pine-shaded bluff above Lake Superior and the mouth of Beaver Creek. Each site accommodates 1-6 people with a maximum of three tents or hammocks, positioned within 15 feet of numbered site posts. Food storage lockers are provided seasonally to protect against wildlife. The campground offers a true wilderness experience with minimal facilities. A shared pit toilet serves all sites, and one communal fire ring provides a gathering spot with Lake Superior views. There is no potable water; campers must filter or treat water from Lake Superior or Beaver Creek. Fires are permitted only in the designated fire ring using dead and down wood. Access requires hiking via the North Country National Scenic Trail or paddling from Lake Superior for kayakers. The nearest road access is Little Beaver Lake Road, an 18-mile drive east of Munising on County Road H-58. A backcountry permit is mandatory year-round, reservable through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Munising, drive 18 miles east on County Road H-58 to Little Beaver Lake Road. Access the backcountry via the North Country National Scenic Trail. Kayakers can reach the campground directly from Lake Superior.
