About
Beaver Creek Campground is a remote backcountry camping area located on a bluff above Lake Superior and Beaver Creek within the Beaver Basin Wilderness. The campground features six dispersed campsites scattered throughout sandy, pine-shaded grounds, offering a primitive wilderness experience in one of Michigan's most scenic backcountry areas. The campground provides one communal fire ring with views of Lake Superior, though finding it and dry firewood can be challenging during winter months when deep snow covers the area. A shared pit toilet is available seasonally. Campers must treat water from Lake Superior or Beaver Creek, as no potable water is available. The location provides direct access to Lake Superior for kayakers and paddlers. Food storage lockers are provided seasonally to protect against wildlife. Access to Beaver Creek requires hiking or paddling, as no road access exists. A backcountry camping permit is required year-round through Recreation.gov with a $15 non-refundable reservation fee plus $5 per person per night camping fee. Winter camping is permitted but challenging, requiring proper preparation for extreme conditions, deep snow, and potentially difficult campsite location. GPS coordinates may be necessary to locate sites in winter.
