About

Sevenmile Creek Group Backpacking Site sits on the eastern bank of Sevenmile Creek within the Beaver Basin Wilderness area of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Accessible via the North Country Trail, hikers cross a footbridge through forested terrain before emerging at this wide-open group site overlooking Lake Superior. The location offers direct access to Lake Superior's shoreline, making it a favored spot for kayakers and paddlers. The site provides basic amenities with one shared fire ring for the group. There are no toilet facilities, so campers must follow Leave No Trace principles. Water can be sourced from Sevenmile Creek or Lake Superior, though all water should be treated before consumption. The exposed lakeside location offers stunning views but can be subject to strong winds off Lake Superior. Winter camping is permitted at this site year-round, though winter access requires snowshoeing or skiing from trailheads as park roads are not plowed. Deep snow can make locating the site challenging, requiring GPS coordinates for navigation. Reservations and permits are required through Recreation.gov with a $15 non-refundable reservation fee plus $5 per person per night camping fee. Maximum stay is three consecutive days at this site, with a 14-day annual limit for all backcountry camping within the lakeshore.
