Overview

Glacier National Park is open year-round and remains accessible during all seasons. The park's iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road opened fully for the 2025 season on June 16. A timed entry vehicle reservation system is required from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (June 13-September 28, 2025) for the West Entrance and North Fork areas, though the east side at St. Mary Entrance does not require reservations. The park is currently undergoing significant construction in the Many Glacier/Swiftcurrent area with a major water system replacement project that began fall 2024 and continues through mid-May 2026. During peak summer 2025 (July 1-September 21), access to Many Glacier is highly restricted with no general public vehicle access—only available via reserved shuttle service, commercial tour, or lodging reservation. Swiftcurrent Motor Inn and Many Glacier Campground remain closed for the entire 2025 season. Prior to July 1 and after September 21, Many Glacier is accessible but with severely limited parking at Many Glacier Hotel only. In winter, only the West Glacier entrance remains open year-round, with about 12.5 miles of Going-to-the-Sun Road maintained for winter recreation. The park offers exceptional opportunities for experienced backcountry users, though winter visitors must be self-sufficient as most facilities are closed November through May.
