About

St. Mary Campground is Glacier National Park's largest east-side campground, featuring 148 reservable sites in a scenic setting with views of Singleshot, East Flattop, and Red Eagle Mountains. While shade is sparse, groves of aspen trees provide pleasant sounds in summer breezes and brilliant yellow colors in fall. The campground operates year-round with varying levels of service: peak season brings full amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, and dump station; shoulder seasons offer primitive camping with reduced services; and winter camping is free with vault toilets only. Located just a half-mile from the St. Mary Visitor Center, campers have easy access to interpretive programs, shuttle services, and Red Bus tours. The campground sits near the eastern entrance to the Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of America's most scenic byways. The east side of the park is renowned for day hiking, with trailheads starting at higher elevations than the west side, requiring less ascent to reach alpine vistas. St. Mary Lake lies nearby, offering stunning scenery though the water is typically too cold for swimming. The campground accommodates RVs and trailers, with three sites handling combinations up to 40 feet and 22 sites accommodating up to 35 feet. Generators are permitted only in Loops B and C, while Loop A remains generator-free. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with a maximum capacity of eight people, two vehicles, and two tents per site. Two group sites are also available by reservation.
