Open for the 2026 season with reservations available through Recreation.gov. Reservations are required April 18 through October 31, 2026. Beginning August 17 through September 11, reservations transition to a day-of window only. Winter camping is first-come, first-served with no amenities.

About

St. Mary Campground is the largest campground on Glacier National Park's east side, positioned just half a mile from the St. Mary Visitor Center and the eastern entrance to the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road. The campground features 148 sites distributed across three loops (A, B, and C), with Loop A designated as a quiet zone where generators are prohibited. Loops B and C permit generator use for those requiring power. The east side of the park offers exceptional day hiking opportunities, with trailheads starting at higher elevations than the west side, requiring less climbing to reach scenic vistas. Though shade is limited, aspen trees provide pleasant sounds in summer breezes and vibrant yellow foliage in autumn. The campground overlooks St. Mary Lake with views of Singleshot, East Flattop, and Red Eagle Mountains. Amenities include flush toilets, potable water, complimentary hot showers for registered campers, a dump station, and ranger-led evening programs. Three sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, and 22 additional sites handle rigs up to 35 feet. Bear-resistant food storage lockers are provided at each site. The campground operates on a reservation system through Recreation.gov from mid-April through October, with primitive winter camping available on a first-come, first-served basis.
