Ben Rover Cabin
Open — Open year-round for reservations. Water is not available December 1 through April 30; guests must bring their own water during winter months. Maximum stay is three consecutive nights with seven total days per calendar year.
About
Ben Rover Cabin is located 35 miles north of Columbia Falls along the Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River, near the western border of Glacier National Park. The rustic cabin sleeps up to eight guests on two double beds, one bunk bed, and two twin beds. Amenities include a propane cook stove, propane lights, propane heater, and wood stove for heating. Basic cooking pots, pans, and utensils are provided, along with cleaning supplies. Outside facilities include a campfire pit with benches, a vault toilet, and a hand-pump well. The cabin is set among aspen trees backing up to conifers, with a grassy field opening to views of the Livingston Range peaks in Glacier National Park. Summer visitors enjoy fishing, canoeing, and kayaking on the river, with mostly Class I-II rapids between Polebridge and Glacier Rim. Winter recreation includes cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling on designated routes nearby. Glacier National Park and the Polebridge Mercantile are a short distance away. Access is via 35 miles of gravel road from Columbia Falls. The road is generally passable by standard vehicle in summer but intermittently plowed in winter, when four-wheel drive with chains is strongly recommended. Guests must bring their own bedding, food, cooler, garbage bags, and camping gear. No electricity is available. Grizzly bears frequent the area, requiring proper food storage.
Directions
From Columbia Falls, travel north on Nucleus Avenue. Turn east at the stop sign on Railroad Street, which becomes North Fork Road after crossing the railroad overpass. At mile 35 on North Fork Road, turn east one mile following signs to Polebridge. Turn left (north) and continue a half-mile to Ben Rover Cabin on the right. The majority of the route is gravel. North Fork Road is intermittently plowed in winter; four-wheel drive with chains is recommended.
