About

Apgar Campground is Glacier National Park's largest developed camping area, featuring 194 sites spread across four loops (A, B, C, D) plus three hiker/bicyclist sites. The heavily forested location provides shade and privacy, with some sites offering views of Lake McDonald. The campground sits at approximately 3,500 feet elevation on the park's western side, which receives the most rainfall in the region. Amenities include flush toilets, free showers for registered campers, potable water, a dump station, food storage lockers, and trash collection during the summer season. A camp store operates seasonally nearby, and evening ranger programs take place at the on-site amphitheater. Fire rings and picnic tables are provided at each site, though fire grates for cooking are not included. The campground accommodates RVs and trailers up to 40 feet, with 25 sites specifically designed for larger rigs. No utility hookups are available. Reservations through Recreation.gov are required during spring, summer, and fall seasons. Winter camping is available free of charge with a valid park entrance pass, though water systems, dump station, and comfort stations are closed during primitive and winter periods.
