About

Apgar Campground is Glacier National Park's largest campground, nestled in a heavily forested area at approximately 3,500 feet elevation near the park's west entrance. The dense tree coverage provides shade and privacy for campers while still offering some sites with views of Lake McDonald. Evening sunsets on the lake are just a short stroll away, and visitors can enjoy ranger-led programs at the on-site amphitheater. The campground accommodates both tent and RV camping, with 25 sites that can handle RVs or truck-trailer combinations up to 40 feet in length. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. During peak season, the campground operates with full amenities including potable water, flush toilets, free showers, and a seasonal dump station. Food storage lockers are provided for safe storage in bear country. Apgar's location makes it an ideal base for exploring Glacier's west side. The campground is situated within the park named for its prominent glacier-carved terrain, home to nearly 70 species of mammals including grizzly bears, wolverines, gray wolves, and lynx. The area generally receives the most rainfall in the park and can experience varied weather including summer snow at higher elevations. Many trails are accessible within a short drive, and the campground provides convenient access to park attractions and the nearby town of West Glacier.
