About

Fish Creek is the second largest campground in Glacier National Park, offering 178 reservable sites nestled in a heavily forested area with plenty of shade. Located on the western side of the park at nearly 3,500 feet elevation, some sites offer filtered views of Lake McDonald through the trees. The campground provides access to numerous day hikes including the Rocky Point Trail, which wanders through a burn area from a 2003 wildfire. The western side of Glacier generally receives the most rainfall in the park. Summer daytime temperatures can exceed 90°F, though it is frequently 10-15°F cooler at higher elevations. Mountain weather is highly variable and can include snow even in summer, so visitors should come prepared with layers and rain gear. Nightly ranger programs are offered at the campground amphitheater. Glacier National Park is named for its prominent glacier-carved terrain and remnant glaciers descended from the ice ages almost 10,000 years ago. The park's diverse habitats are home to nearly 70 species of mammals including grizzly bear, wolverine, gray wolf and lynx, plus over 270 species of birds.
