About
Rising Sun Campground occupies a scenic location along Going-to-the-Sun Road, positioned halfway along St. Mary Lake where the mountains meet the prairies. The campground features 84 first-come, first-served sites set in varied terrain, with some open sites offering cool breezes and mountain views, while others nestle among trees for shade and privacy. Campers wake to spectacular sunrises over St. Mary Lake with Red Eagle Mountain as a dramatic backdrop. The campground serves as an excellent base camp for exploring the east side of Glacier National Park. Day hikers can easily access trails near Logan Pass and throughout the St. Mary Valley. The adjacent Rising Sun Motor Inn provides additional amenities during the summer season. Sites accommodate vehicles up to 21 feet in total length and include picnic tables and fire rings. Each site is limited to eight people, two vehicles, and two tents maximum. Seasonal amenities include flush toilets, potable water, coin-operated showers, a dump station, food storage lockers, and an amphitheater. The campground typically operates from mid-June through mid-September, dependent on Going-to-the-Sun Road conditions and seasonal snow. During peak summer months, sites fill early each morning, so arriving before 8 AM is recommended for securing a spot.
