Overview
Yosemite National Park is open year-round, 24 hours a day. Currently in winter conditions, the park remains fully accessible through three main entrances that stay open year-round: CA-41 from Oakhurst, CA-140 from Mariposa, and CA-120 West from Groveland. However, seasonal winter closures are in effect for high-elevation roads. Tioga Road (CA-120 East) and Glacier Point Road closed for the season in mid-November 2025 and typically remain closed until late May or early June, depending on snow conditions and plowing schedules. During winter, tire chains may be required on park roads during snowy or icy conditions, so come prepared. Four campgrounds remain open year-round: Upper Pines and Camp 4 in Yosemite Valley, Hodgdon Meadow north of the Valley, and Wawona south of the Valley. No entrance reservations are currently required during the winter season (reservations were only needed during peak summer periods from late May through early September 2025). The park encompasses nearly 1,200 square miles featuring iconic waterfalls, deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, and vast wilderness areas. Winter visitors can experience unique beauty with potential snow-covered landscapes, though certain backcountry areas may be inaccessible until spring thaw. Always check current conditions before visiting, as weather can change rapidly in the Sierra Nevada.
