About

Wawona Campground is situated at the southern end of Yosemite National Park, offering 99 campsites in a forested setting along the South Fork of the Merced River at 4,000 feet elevation. The campground is 27 miles and approximately 45 minutes south of Yosemite Valley and provides convenient access to some of the park's most historic and scenic areas. The area is forested with a diverse mix of ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, white fir, and whiteleaf manzanita, creating a pleasant combination of sun and shade throughout the campground. Wawona holds historical significance as the site of the park's headquarters in 1904, and historic structures still stand in the nearby Wawona area, including the Pioneer Yosemite History Center. The majestic Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, home to ancient trees like the Grizzly Giant and California Tunnel Tree, is just four miles away. The campground offers access to several hiking trails, including the Wawona Meadow Loop, Swinging Bridge Loop, Alder Creek, and Chilnualna Falls. The campground accommodates tents, RVs up to 35 feet, and trailers up to 35 feet across three loops (A, B, and C), plus one group site. During the reservation season from mid-April through late October, sites are highly sought after and typically fill within minutes of becoming available on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. PST. The campground provides flush toilets, potable water, picnic tables, fire rings, and food storage lockers at each site. A general store and gas station are located about a mile south. Bear-resistant food storage is mandatory 24 hours a day.
