About

Tucked away at 7,700 feet in the high country of Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Creek Campground rewards those willing to navigate its rough 5-mile access road. The single-lane dirt road with hairpin turns makes this campground inaccessible to motorhomes and trailers, creating a quieter, more primitive camping experience than the park's more accessible sites. Granite boulders dot the landscape while Yosemite Creek meanders through the campground on its way to Yosemite Valley. The 74 campsites are spread through forested terrain near the creek, which serves as the only water source. All water must be filtered, treated, or boiled before drinking. Each site includes a food storage locker, essential in this active bear habitat. Vault toilets are available seasonally, and trash/recycling collection is provided during the operating season. The campground's location offers access to excellent hiking opportunities including trails to Tuolumne Meadows and the Yosemite Creek drainage. Tenaya Lake is nearby for swimming and paddling. The remote setting and primitive amenities attract campers seeking solitude away from the park's more crowded areas.

Directions

From Yosemite Valley, take Big Oak Flat Road to Crane Flat, turn onto Tioga Road and continue approximately 14 miles to the campground access road on your right. From the east via Tioga Pass, drive approximately 30 miles west on Tioga Road; the access road is on your left. The final 5 miles are on a rough, narrow, single-lane dirt road with hairpin turns.
