About

Wawona Horse Campsites are located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park at the southern end of the park, 27 miles and approximately 45 minutes from Yosemite Valley, at an elevation of 4,000 feet. The two equestrian sites sit along the gentle South Fork of the Merced River in a forested area with a diverse mix of ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, white fir, and whiteleaf manzanita. Each campsite contains a picnic table, fire ring, and food storage locker. High lines, flush toilets, and drinking water are provided when the campground is open. Site 1 can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, while Site 2 accommodates RVs up to 30 feet. Grain must be stored in the provided food storage lockers, and weed-free feed is encouraged. Potable water and a dump station for RVs and trailers is located behind the Wawona General Store on Forest Drive. Wawona was home to the park's headquarters in 1904 and historic structures still stand today at the adjacent Pioneer Yosemite History Center. The majestic Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is just four miles away, featuring stately trees like Grizzly Giant, Faithful Couple, and California Tunnel Tree. Local hiking trails include the Wawona Meadow Loop, Swinging Bridge Loop, Alder Creek, and Chilnualna Falls. Yosemite Valley, with its iconic waterfalls, granite cliffs, and endless recreation opportunities, is 45 minutes away.

Directions
