About

Wawona Horse Campsites sit in southern Yosemite National Park at 4,000 feet elevation, offering equestrian campers a base to explore the historic Wawona area and surrounding wilderness. The campground features two dedicated horse camp sites, each accommodating up to six people and six head of stock. High lines are provided for containing stock, and portable corrals are permitted if placed under the hitch lines. The sites are forested with ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, white fir, and whiteleaf manzanita, providing a mix of sun and shade alongside the gentle South Fork of the Merced River. The location offers access to multiple trail systems including the Wawona Meadow Loop, Swinging Bridge Loop, Alder Creek, and Chilnualna Falls trails. The majestic Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is just four miles away, featuring trails that lead to iconic trees like the Grizzly Giant and California Tunnel Tree. The Pioneer Yosemite History Center sits adjacent to the campground, showcasing historic structures from when Wawona served as park headquarters in 1904. Yosemite Valley is 45 minutes north, and a general store and gas station are less than a mile away. Reservations are required and become available up to five months in advance on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. PST.
