Porcupine Flat Campground
Closed for the season. Tioga Road opened May 15, 2026, but high-country campgrounds typically require at least four weeks of preparation after the road opens. Expected to open around July 2026 and close mid-October. Reservations required via Recreation.gov on a rolling 2-week window at 7 am Pacific.

About
Porcupine Flat Campground is a primitive high-country campground in Yosemite National Park, located along the Tioga Road at 8,100 feet elevation. The campground sits about 30 minutes west of Tuolumne Meadows and over an hour from Yosemite Valley, placing it in the heart of the High Sierra with access to excellent day hiking and backpacking. The Porcupine Creek Trailhead is nearby, offering routes to destinations like North Dome. The campground has 55 sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Vault toilets are available seasonally. There is no potable water; the only water source is Porcupine Creek, which must be filtered, treated, or boiled before drinking. Campers should bring adequate water supplies. There are no visitor services close to the campground. RVs and trailers are not recommended due to narrow roads, though a few sites can accommodate RVs up to 24 feet. Pets are permitted on leash. Cell service is minimal to nonexistent along the Tioga Road corridor.
Directions
From Yosemite Valley, take Big Oak Flat Road and Tioga Road 38 miles east (approximately 70 minutes). From Tioga Pass (east entrance), drive 24 miles west (35 minutes). From Highway 120 west/Big Oak Flat entrance, take Big Oak Flat Road and Tioga Road 31 miles (45 minutes). The campground is north of Tioga Road.
