About
Roaring River Group Campground is tucked into a wooded setting in Willamette National Forest, just feet from the aptly named Roaring River. The campground is designed for groups of up to 50 people, with parking accommodating 10 vehicles. The site features picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and dumpster service. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is provided on-site. The Box Canyon Trail area is nearby, offering excellent hiking on routes like the McBee Trail and Roaring Ridge Trail, which passes through Douglas fir forests with views of the South Fork of the McKenzie River. The Three Sisters Wilderness is also accessible, with 260 miles of trails through alpine meadows and volcanic peaks. Fishing, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing are popular activities, with osprey, great blue herons, and bald eagles commonly spotted. Access is via Aufderheide National Scenic Byway (Forest Service Road 19), approximately 20 miles south of Highway 126. A locked gate controls entry; reservations include a combination code. Campers should call the McKenzie River Ranger Station at least 72 hours before arrival to confirm the gate code.
