About

Skookum Creek Campground sits at the end of Forest Road 1957 in the Willamette National Forest, offering a quiet base camp for wilderness exploration. The 9 tent-only sites are available first-come, first-served, with vault toilets and picnic tables but no potable water. Campers must bring their own drinking water and be prepared for primitive conditions. The campground is best known as the starting point for the Erma Bell Lakes Trail, which leads into the Three Sisters Wilderness. Both hikers and equestrians use this trailhead, and horses and pack animals are permitted at the campground. The remote setting provides excellent opportunities for backcountry fishing and solitude, though the access road is rough and brushy, making a high-clearance vehicle essential.

Directions

From Oakridge, travel west on Highway 58 for 2.1 miles, turn right onto Westfir-Oakridge Road for 1.3 miles. At the junction, continue right through Westfir to the four-way intersection and continue straight onto Forest Road 19 (Aufderheide Drive). Continue approximately 32 miles to Forest Road 1957 on the right. Turn right and travel 3.6 miles to the parking area. Note: FR 1957 is rough and brushy; high-clearance vehicle required.
