About

Frissell Crossing Campground offers a peaceful retreat on the South Fork of the McKenzie River in Oregon's Willamette National Forest. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, this historic 12-site campground sits at 2,600 feet elevation, tucked away from the main road. The sites are spread around an open meadow surrounded by Douglas fir, rhododendrons, and vine maple. The campground provides vault toilets, hand-pumped drinking water, fire rings, picnic tables, and trash collection. Over half the sites can be reserved in advance through Recreation.gov, with the remainder available first-come, first-served. Check-in is at 2:00 p.m. and check-out is 1:00 p.m., with a maximum 14-day stay within any 60-day period. Recreation opportunities abound in this area. The Three Sisters Wilderness, Box Canyon Trail, Mink Lake Basin Trail, and Terwilliger Hot Springs are all nearby. Cougar Reservoir offers additional water recreation, and the South Fork McKenzie River provides fishing and swimming access directly from camp.
