North Rim Campground

Open — As of July 12, 2025, the North Rim Campground is closed due to the White Sage Fire. The North Rim remains closed to all visitor use until further notice to support firefighting operations and ensure public safety. Additionally, the area is under Stage 3 Water Restrictions, with the laundry and shower facilities closed to conserve water. Updates will be provided as conditions evolve.

North Rim Campground reservations for the 2026 season will not be released at this time. Further damage assessments from the Dragon Bravo Fire this past summer must be conducted to determine if the campground will reopen for 2026.

About

The North Rim Campground is situated on the remote and less frequented North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in northern Arizona, approximately 210 miles from Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim. Nestled in a dense forest of ponderosa pines and aspens at an elevation of 8,200 feet, the campground offers a serene environment with pleasant summer temperatures and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a campfire ring with a cooking grill. Water spigots and restrooms with flush toilets and sinks are conveniently located throughout the main campground. The tent-only section has a vault toilet nearby, but tent campers are welcome to use the main campground's facilities. Due to the heavily forested landscape, large and high-profile RVs cannot be accommodated, and many sites have obstacles such as tight curves and narrow passages through trees. The campground operates from May 15 through October 15, with reservations required during this period. The Grand Canyon Lodge and North Rim Visitor Center are located one mile south of the campground, providing additional amenities and services. The nearest town is Jacob Lake, 41 miles away, with the closest full-service grocery stores and medical facilities in Kanab, Utah, and Page, Arizona.

Directions

From State Highway 89A, take Highway 67 south for 30 miles to the Grand Canyon North Rim Entrance Station. The North Rim Campground is located about 11.5 miles further. The turn for the campground is the second right after the North Kaibab Trailhead parking area.
