About

Hull Cabin is a historic rental cabin located just steps from Grand Canyon National Park on the Tusayan Ranger District of Kaibab National Forest. Built in the late 1880s with hand-hewn logs as a one-room homestead by the Hull family, it was acquired by the U.S. Forest Service in 1907 for use as a ranger station. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, the cabin was renovated by the Forest Service in 1989-90 and is now part of Arizona's Rooms with a View cabin rental program. The cabin sits in a secluded meadow surrounded by old growth ponderosa pine trees at 6,500 feet elevation. It sleeps up to six people and includes a bedroom with two sets of twin bunk beds, a living room with a queen-sized futon, and a fully equipped kitchen with indoor plumbing (water is hauled to the site), oven, stove, refrigerator, and dishes. A separate shower house just outside contains a vault toilet and two solar shower stalls. An outdoor fire pit is available for campfires. The location provides access to miles of trails including the Arizona Trail, fishing at nearby Russell Tank during high water seasons, and wildlife viewing at Hull Tank where elk, mule deer, wild turkey, javelina, and even endangered California condors may be spotted. Grandview Lookout Tower is nearby and offers 360-degree views of the canyon and surrounding forest. Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim is just one mile away. The cabin is accessed via approximately 16 miles of graded gravel roads from Tusayan.

Directions

The cabin is located approximately 16 miles east of Tusayan, Arizona on graded gravel roads. From Highway 64/180, turn east onto Forest Road 302 just south of the Grand Hotel in Tusayan. Turn left at the junction of Forest Roads 302 and 310. Follow Forest Road 310 for 1.5 miles and turn right on Forest Road 307. Follow signs to Hull Cabin, just over a mile further. Alternative access is available through Grand Canyon National Park (requires park entrance fee).
