Mather Campground - South Rim

Open

Open year-round. Stage 3 water restrictions are in effect due to a pipeline break: water spigots are turned off, fires are prohibited, and Camper Services (showers/laundry) is closed. Restrooms and the dump station remain operational. Campers must bring their own drinking water. Restrictions remain until pipeline repairs are complete and water storage reaches sustainable levels.

About

Mather Campground is the premier camping destination on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, offering 327 campsites organized across seven loop roads beneath a tall canopy of Ponderosa pine, pinyon, and juniper trees. At 7,000 feet elevation and just one mile from the canyon rim, it provides an ideal base camp for exploring one of America's most iconic landscapes. Each standard site accommodates up to six people and includes a campfire ring with cooking grate, picnic table, parking space, and room for up to three tents and two vehicles. The campground offers flush toilets throughout. Group sites in Sage Loop accommodate 7-50 people, while two equine sites and communal hiker/biker sites round out the options. Fourteen ADA-accessible sites feature larger parking areas and raised fire rings. The campground operates year-round with peak season running March 1 through November 30 when reservations are strongly recommended. Approximately 20 first-come, first-served sites are available daily during peak season but typically sell out by 11 a.m. The free park shuttle stops at the campground, connecting campers to rim overlooks, the Visitor Center, and Market Plaza with its general store.

Directions

From the South Entrance, follow the main park road for about three miles and turn left on Center Road. Travel 1/4 mile and turn right onto Market Plaza Road. The campground is about one mile down Market Plaza Road on the right.
