About
Built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Grandview Lookout Cabin was constructed as seasonal housing for fire lookouts who staffed the adjacent 80-foot steel tower. Both structures were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, recognizing their significance as examples of Depression-era forest infrastructure. The cabin and tower are located on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest, approximately 4 miles from Grandview Point on the Grand Canyon's South Rim. Today the site functions primarily as an Arizona Trail trailhead and interpretive stop for hikers. The historic cabin underwent restoration work coordinated by HistoriCorps in 2024, including ADA ramp construction, perimeter fencing, chimney repointing, and window rehabilitation. A vault toilet is available on site, but there is no potable water. Grandview Lookout Cabin is not currently part of the Forest Service's "Rooms with a View" cabin rental program. Visitors seeking overnight accommodations should consider nearby Hull Cabin, which is available for reservation through Recreation.gov and offers easy access to the Grandview area.
