About

DeMotte Campground is located within the North Kaibab Ranger District of Kaibab National Forest, positioned just 7 miles north of the entrance to Grand Canyon National Park's North Rim. The campground sits at approximately 8,760 feet elevation along Arizona Highway 67, about 25 miles south of the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center at Jacob Lake. The 38-site campground is surrounded by mixed conifer forests of spruce, fir, and ponderosa pine, characteristic of the high Kaibab Plateau. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring the North Rim area, offering camping and picnicking opportunities amid the plateau's distinctive ecosystem. The area is home to unique wildlife including the tassel-eared Kaibab squirrel, found nowhere else in the world. Visitors enjoy hiking trails through the forest, wildlife viewing, and unparalleled access to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Due to the high elevation and heavy snowfall, the campground operates seasonally from mid-May through mid-October, with exact dates dependent on snow conditions and road access.
