Moore Creek Campground is located on the quieter McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake, offering a peaceful setting within California's largest national forest. The campground sits at approximately 1,067 feet elevation, surrounded by steep mountains covered in manzanita and evergreens, with views of snow-capped Mount Shasta in the distance. The partially shaded sites include all standard amenities: picnic tables, fire rings, tent pads, bear-proof food storage boxes, and paved parking spurs. The campground serves primarily as a group facility but can accommodate individual families on an overflow basis. Shasta Lake is renowned for its 365 miles of shoreline and excellent water-based recreation. The nearest public boat ramp at Hirz Bay is 4 miles away, where boaters can also find fuel and rentals at nearby lakefront resorts. Anglers can target trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. The lake is popular for both motorized and non-motorized boating, as well as water skiing. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest encompasses over 6,278 miles of streams and rivers, five wilderness areas, and hundreds of mountain lakes. Nearby Hirz Mountain Lookout offers panoramic views of Mount Shasta, Mount Lassen, and the surrounding landscape from 3,500 feet elevation. Bears are active in the area, and poison oak is abundant, so appropriate precautions are necessary.

Directions

From I-5, take exit 698 for Salt Creek/Gilman Road. Turn right at the end of the off-ramp and follow Gilman Road east approximately 20 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
