About

Hirz Bay Group 1 sits in a forest of oak and manzanita on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake at roughly 1,067 feet elevation. This group-only campground is designed for gatherings of up to 120 people, with a paved 21-space parking lot kept separate from the sleeping and camping area. Amenities include two large pedestal grills, one large fire ring, two sinks with faucets, and vault toilets. Water recreation is a primary draw here. The Hirz Bay boat ramp is approximately 1 mile away, providing access for power boating, water skiing, and fishing. Shasta Lake supports excellent fishing for trout, bass, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, and sturgeon. Hikers can access the 2-mile Hirz Bay Trail near the campground, and the Hirz Mountain Lookout offers panoramic views of Mount Shasta and Mount Lassen. Reservation holders must contact the Shasta Recreation Office at least one week prior to arrival to obtain the combination code for gate access. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage in bear-proof containers is required. Poison oak is abundant throughout the campground.
