About
Ellery Creek Campground sits on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake in the Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. The campground's terraced design provides lake views from all lower sites and select upper sites. At certain water levels, boats can be moored directly on the shore within sight of the campground, making Ellery Creek particularly popular with boaters and water enthusiasts. The campground features 19 sites, each equipped with a picnic table, tent pad, fire ring, bear box, and paved parking spur. A public boat ramp is located approximately 4 miles away at Hirz Bay, and informal mooring is allowed at Ellery Creek when water levels are sufficient. The area is popular for water skiing, jet skiing, and fishing. Lake Shasta offers excellent fishing for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. Shasta Lake sits at an elevation of 1,067 feet, surrounded by steep mountains blanketed in manzanita and evergreens, with snow-capped Mount Shasta visible in the distance. Nearby attractions include the Lake Shasta Caverns on the McCloud Arm and Hirz Mountain Lookout, which offers panoramic views at 3,500 feet elevation. The nearest store is 21 miles away in Lakehead.
