About
Ellery Creek Campground sits on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The terraced design provides views of the lake from all lower sites and many upper sites. When Shasta Lake is at higher levels (within approximately 50 feet of full pool), boats can be moored on the shore directly below the campground, making this a favorite spot among boaters despite the lack of an on-site launch. All 19 sites are standard nonelectric and can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 40 feet, though the average maximum trailer length is listed as 30 feet. Sites are back-in only with paved driveways. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring with grill, bear-proof food locker, and tent pad. Two sets of vault toilets and water spigots serve the campground. No showers or hookups are available. The nearest boat ramp is at Hirz Bay, about 4 miles away. Lake Shasta offers fishing for trout, bass, catfish, salmon, crappie, and sturgeon. The Lake Shasta Caverns and Hirz Mountain Lookout (3,500 ft elevation with views of Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen) are nearby attractions. The closest supplies are in Lakehead, 21 miles away.
Directions
From I-5, take exit 698 (Salt Creek/Gilman Road). Turn right at the end of the off-ramp and follow Gilman Road east approximately 11-15 miles. The campground entrance is on the right between Moore Creek and Pine Point Campgrounds.
