Closed — Closed seasonally. Reservations available through Recreation.gov. Call (530) 275-8113 one week before arrival for entry code. Due to theft and vandalism, solar power for lights and fans is unavailable, but the refrigerator, hot water heater, and stove still work.

Hirz Cabin is a three-bedroom rental cabin perched on a hilltop among manzanita and oak trees, overlooking the scenic McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake. The cabin features two bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs, along with two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and laundry facilities. It sleeps six people in beds (two queen and two twin) with ample floor space for inflatable mattresses. Amenities include a dining table with four chairs, a sofa, and a large deck perfect for relaxing. Due to theft and vandalism, the cabin no longer has solar power for lights and fans, but the refrigerator, hot water heater, and stove remain operational. Generator power runs 6-8 a.m. and 6-9 p.m. for tasks like dishes and laundry. The cabin sits at 1,067 feet elevation within Shasta-Trinity National Forest, California's largest national forest. Lake Shasta offers 365 miles of shoreline with excellent opportunities for power boating, fishing, and water skiing. The lake is known for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. The nearest boat launch is about one mile away at Hirz Bay. Hikers can access the two-mile Hirz Bay Trail directly from the campground. The parking area accommodates one boat with tow vehicle and four cars. Guests must bring their own bedding, and poison oak is abundant in the area.

Directions

From Redding, remain on I-5 to Gilman Road (from the north, take Salt Creek exit to Gilman Road). Take Gilman Road east for 11 miles to entrance of Hirz Bay. Turn right on Hirz Bay Road; Hirz Cabin will be the first road on the right.
