Dekkas Rock Group Campground sits on a peninsula along the McCloud Arm of Lake Shasta in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, offering panoramic views of the mountainous shoreline. This single-group site accommodates up to 60 people and provides 8 large tables, 2 large pedestal grills, 1 family barbecue grill, 2 campfire rings, and unpaved parking with additional spaces for boat trailers. Lake access is adjacent to the camp, though water levels fluctuate seasonally. The campground serves as a trailhead for the 1-mile Hirz Bay Trail and sits near the Hirz Bay boat ramp, providing access for both motorized and non-motorized watercraft. Lake Shasta offers excellent fishing for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. Water skiing and other water sports are popular activities on the 365-mile shoreline lake. The campground sits at 1,067 feet elevation in a landscape of steep mountains covered in manzanita and evergreens, with views of snow-capped Mount Shasta in the distance. Bear-proof food storage is required due to active bear presence. Nearby attractions include Lake Shasta Caverns and Hirz Mountain Lookout, which offers panoramic views at 3,500 feet elevation.

Directions

Exit I-5 at Gilman Road/Salt Creek Road. Southbound traffic: exit and turn left onto Salt Creek Road, second left is Gilman Road. Northbound traffic: turn right onto Gilman Road. Follow Gilman Road for 10 miles east to Dekkas Rock Group.
