About

Hirz Bay Campground is located on a hilltop overlooking the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, California's largest national forest. The campground sits at 1,067 feet elevation among manzanita and oak trees, offering scenic views of the lake with Mount Shasta visible in the distance. The facility includes 37 campsites, each equipped with a paved parking spur, picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage locker. Flush toilets, drinking water, and an overflow parking area are provided. Shasta Lake offers 365 miles of shoreline with excellent opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing. The lake is known for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. The Hirz Bay boat ramp, located approximately 1 mile from the campground, provides convenient water access with multiple launch lanes. Local resorts offer watercraft rentals and marinas with fuel. Land-based recreation includes the 2-mile Hirz Bay Trail, accessible directly from the campground. The area is part of the diverse Shasta-Trinity National Forest landscape, which encompasses five wilderness areas, hundreds of mountain lakes, and over 6,000 miles of streams and rivers.
