Open — Open year-round for reservations through Recreation.gov. Group reservations must contact Shasta Recreation Company at least one week prior to arrival for the combination code to access the campground. Check-in is 3:00 p.m., check-out is 12:00 p.m.

Dekkas Rock Group Campground sits on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest at approximately 1,067 feet elevation. This single-group facility can accommodate up to 60 people and is designed for group camping experiences. The campground features sites adjacent to the lake with scenic views of the mountainous shoreline, though visitors should note that lake levels drop significantly as summer progresses. The facility includes 8 large tables, 2 large pedestal grills, 1 large family barbecue grill, 2 campfire rings, and 4 unpaved parking spurs. An additional unpaved parking lot with 8 spaces is provided specifically for boat trailers and overflow parking. Amenities include drinking water from faucets, vault toilets, and bear-proof food lockers. The maximum trailer size is approximately 16 feet due to the unpaved parking spurs. Recreation opportunities abound, with the 1-mile Hirz Bay Trail accessible from camp and the nearby Hirz Bay public boat ramp providing water access. Shasta Lake offers excellent fishing for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. Water skiing, swimming, and boating are popular activities. The area features abundant poison oak, and all food must be stored in approved containers due to bears. The Lake Shasta Caverns and Hirz Mountain Lookout are nearby attractions.

Directions

Exit I-5 at Gilman Road, exit 698. Southbound traffic: exit and turn left onto Salt Creek Road, second left is Gilman Road. Northbound traffic: turn right onto Gilman Road. Follow Gilman Road approximately 10-12 miles east to Dekkas Rock Group Campground.
