Hirz Bay Group 2 Campground sits along the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, the largest national forest in California. The campground is shaded by a forest of oak and manzanita on a hilltop location at approximately 1,067 feet elevation. Lake Shasta offers 365 miles of shoreline with steep mountains blanketed in manzanita and evergreens, and snow-capped Mount Shasta, the second-tallest mountain in the Cascade Range, visible in the distance. The group campground accommodates up to 80 people and includes 9 picnic tables, one large open fire ring, one large pedestal grill, two fireplaces with grates, and two water hydrants. Vault toilets and bear-proof food storage lockers are provided. The paved parking area is separate from the camping/sleeping area and contains 23 spaces. Reservation holders must contact the Shasta Recreation Office at least one week prior to arrival for a combination code to access the facility. Recreational opportunities include the Hirz Bay boat launch located a half-mile from the campground, with a $16 daily use fee. The 2-mile Hirz Bay Trail is also accessible near the campground. Lake Shasta provides excellent fishing for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. Popular water activities include power and non-motorized boating, fishing, and water skiing. Nearby attractions include Lake Shasta Caverns and the Hirz Mountain Lookout at 3,500 feet elevation offering panoramic views.

Directions

Exit I-5 at Gilman Road (exit 698), 25 miles north of Redding. Turn east on Gilman Road and travel approximately 10-11 miles. The entrance to Hirz Bay is on the right.
