Mccoy Snowmobile Area
The McCoy Snow Shelter overnight use season runs November 15 through April 30 only. As of mid-May, the winter shelter season has ended and overnight stays are not permitted. The summer motorized recreation area is open for day use.
Alcohol Prohibitions
This Order describes acts that are prohibited upon lands, roads and trails within the National Forest System administered by the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region in regards to alcoholic beverages.
Aquatic Invasive Species
This Order prohibits 1) possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic invasive animal species AND 2) prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic or riparian invasive plant species - on National Forest System lands in the Pacific Northwest Region as specified in the Order.
Restrictions on Use of Forage and Mulch Products

About
McCoy Snowmobile Area sits at 4,800 feet elevation in the Willamette National Forest, offering winter recreation with groomed forest road routes leading to McCoy Shelter. The North Santiam Snowmobile Club maintains the trails in cooperation with the Detroit Ranger District, with routes marked by orange diamonds offering varied terrain and views of the High Cascades including Mount Jefferson. The McCoy Snow Shelter permits overnight stays from November 15 through April 30 with a maximum capacity of 15 persons and a 3-night stay limit. Toilets are available at the shelter. No potable water is provided; visitors must bring their own. There are no fees. During summer months, the area operates as McCoy Motorized Recreation Area, a shared-use road system of approximately 50 miles open to motorized vehicles (Class I-IV) and highway vehicles. This is day-use only with no overnight camping facilities available outside the winter shelter season.
Directions
From Detroit, Oregon, head east on Highway 22 for 6 miles to McCoy Road (Forest Service Road 2233). The parking area location depends on snow level. A large staging area parking lot is located 0.5 miles up from the highway junction.
