About

Round Lake Campground was once an established Forest Service campground but now serves as a dispersed camping area in the Mount Hood National Forest. Located at an elevation of 3,520 feet near the Round Lake Trail, the area offers primitive camping opportunities along the east end of Round Lake. The remote location requires navigating several miles of forest roads to reach the former campground site. The area provides access to Round Lake Trail #565, a short and easy trail that circles the scenic lake. Visitors can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in the surrounding forest. The dispersed camping area maintains a backcountry character with no developed amenities or services. Snow is common in winter and spring at this elevation, and forest roads may be impassable during snowy conditions. This primitive camping area appeals to those seeking solitude and a true backcountry experience. Campers must be fully self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles. The remote setting provides opportunities for fishing, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the peaceful mountain lake environment away from developed campgrounds.
