Desert View Campground

Desert View Campground provides a more peaceful alternative to the busy Grand Canyon Village area, positioned near the park's East Entrance at an elevation of 7,463 feet. The 50 campsites are arranged in a single one-way oval loop beneath a canopy of pinyon pine and juniper trees. Most sites accommodate tents or smaller RVs and trailers up to 30 feet total length; vehicles over 29 feet may struggle with tight turns. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a fire ring with cooking grill. Restrooms with flush toilets and sinks are centrally located, with two ADA-designated sites positioned nearest the facilities. Two water spigots provide potable water, though these cannot be used to fill RV tanks. There are no showers, laundromat, hookups, or dump station; the nearest dump station is at Mather Campground, 26 miles away. A general store and gas station operate seasonally within walking distance, offering limited groceries, firewood, snacks, and camping supplies. The campground sits less than half a mile from the canyon rim and a short walk from the historic Desert View Watchtower, which offers expansive views of the canyon and Painted Desert. Wildlife including elk, mule deer, and California condors frequent the area.

Directions

From Grand Canyon Village, drive east 23 miles on Desert View Drive (AZ-64). The campground entrance is the first right after the Desert View Gas Station. From Cameron on US-89, drive west 28 miles on AZ-64 through the park's East Entrance.
