About

Harris Trailhead / Horse Camp is a primitive equestrian camping area located in the Fremont-Winema National Forest in Lake County, Oregon. This rustic facility serves as a trailhead and staging area for horseback riders looking to explore the backcountry trails of the national forest. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system and no fees required. As a dispersed-style horse camp, Harris Trailhead offers minimal developed amenities. There is no drinking water available on-site, so visitors must bring an adequate supply. No restroom facilities are provided. Campers should be prepared for primitive camping conditions and practice Leave No Trace principles. The location provides access to trail systems suitable for horseback riding and hiking in the surrounding forest landscape. The campground typically operates seasonally, with access limited during winter months due to snow and unplowed roads at this elevation. Summer and fall are the primary seasons for use when roads are passable and weather conditions are favorable for backcountry riding.
