About
Fremont Point Cabin occupies a dramatic location on the edge of Winter Rim in Lake County, Oregon, perched nearly 3,000 feet above Summer Lake. The current cabin was completed in 2015 through community donations and volunteer labor, replacing the original structure destroyed in a 2002 wildfire. At 7,135 feet elevation, the site offers sweeping views of the high desert basin below and provides genuine backcountry solitude. The cabin accommodates up to 4 guests with one queen bed and a set of twin bunk beds, plus floor space for additional sleeping arrangements you provide. Inside you'll find a propane range top, refrigerator, LP lamps for lighting, and a wood stove for heat. Firewood is available. Dishes and cookware are not provided. There is no potable water, running water, or electricity. A newly constructed vault toilet stands next to the cabin, and a large wrap-around deck provides space to take in the views. Summer access follows Forest Road 2901 and 2901-034, about 1.5 hours from Silver Lake. The final stretch can be slick when wet, and the narrow access road has limited turnaround space, making it unsuitable for large RVs or trailers. Winter travelers must ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile 10-15 miles from the snow park; a warming shelter with wood stove marks the halfway point. Nearby recreation includes the Fremont National Recreation Trail, Oregon Timber Trail, and access to the Wild and Scenic Sycan River headwaters.

The final road section is narrow with limited parking and turnaround.
